Ground Source Heat Pump Tax Credits Expiring

Ground source heat pumps have enjoyed an approximately 30% tax credit since 2008. That is now ending, effective at the end of 2016. These tax credits have encouraged many homeowners to install ground source heat pumps, which are extremely efficient, often providing SEER’s in the 16-18 range. However, the air-side market has responded, and today homeowners can get similar SEER and HSPF ratings using air-air HVAC equipment. The new air-air equipment is not cheap, but it is still less than digging long, deep ditches in your back yard. So the way I see it, ground source heat pumps led the way, and the air-air manufacturers responded to the challenge. That is win-win for all parties. Aug 6, 2015
